100W, 200W and 300W wirewound resistors increase power density for high-current applications

Until now designers have had few options when choosing wirewound power resistors rated above 50W, but Welwyn Components has remedied this by today announcing 100W, 200W and 300W resistors in standard E24 values from 0.01Ω up to 70kΩ. Other values are available to special order.

The WH100, WH200 and WH300 series meet the high demands of applications such as dummy loads, test equipment, cellular basestations, conduction heating elements, welding-equipment PSUs, or low-end dynamic braking systems. They can be used to increase power-handling capability, or to reduce equipment size and cost by replacing networks of lower-rated power resistors.

The WH100 type has solderable terminations and a baseplate footprint of 47.5mm x 65.2mm. Available resistance values span the range 0.01Ω to 70kΩ. The WH200 and WH300 types feature M6 threaded terminations, with nuts and washers supplied. The WH200 has 72.5mm x 89.7mm footprint and is available from 0.01Ω to 50kΩ. WH300 resistors measure 72.5mm x 127.7mm and are available in values from 0.01Ω to 68kΩ.

The three resistor types feature robust, all-welded construction and aluminium housing optimised for efficient thermal transfer to a heatsink. The resistor bases have pre-drilled mounting holes allowing the heatsink to be attached directly. All devices are specified for operation from –55°C to 200°C, and withstand pulse and overload conditions of up to 10-times rated power for 1 second.
